Suction Tests

Suction at the... ProHeat 2X Average
Base 62 72
Hose 62 71
Nozzle 0.73 1.89

The ProHeat 2x Revolution has well below average measured suction at the base, the hose, and the nozzle.

Stain Cleaning Tests

Passes to clean... ProHeat 2X Average
Tomato Sauce 11 11.3
Peanut Butter 11 8.5
Ice Cream 7 8.0
Grape Juice 2 2.6
Caramel Syrup 5 5.2
Choc. Syrup 8 7.8
Coyote Urine 2 1.9
Total 46 45.2

In our upright stain test we push its cleaner back and forth 10 times over seven different stains. The numbers above denote the number of passes it took to completely clean each stain.

A score higher than “10” denotes that the cleaner did not completely clean the stain. For example, the ProHeat 2x Revolution did NOT completely clean the tomato sauce stain. It left behind some light staining after 10 passes and so it gets a score of “11” for the tomato sauce stain. This was a fairly average result for this test though.

The ProHeat 2x Revolution also did NOT completely clean the peanut butter stain. This was a worse than average result as most competitors could completely clean this stain in under 10 passes.

Most other results are right around average, and the total score – the total number of passes it took to clean all stains – is right round average.

The bottom line – the ProHeat 2x Revolution was only an average performer in this test overall.

Moisture Extraction

Moisture level... ProHeat 2X Average
After 10x Passes (%) 28 26.8
After +3x Passes (%) 25 24.5

After the stain test we also measured the moisture level of the carpet that was cleaned. As you can see above, the ProHeat 2x Revolution did leave the carpet wetter than average after cleaning.

We then ran the cleaner over the same strip of carpet for three additional back and forth passes – only drying the carpet for these passes. After these additional “dry” passes the ProHeat 2x was able to dry the carpet to an average level of dryness.

The bottom line – directly after cleaning this model leaves carpet wetter than average, but you can dry it to an average level of dryness with additional “dry” passes.

Area of Coverage

ProHeat 2X Average
Sq. Ft. Per Clean Tank 116 137
Total Clean Tank Capacity (Oz.) 128 119
Soap + Water Used Per Sq. Ft. (Oz.) 1.1 0.8
Sq. Ft. Per Dirty Tank 59 89
Dirty Water Tank Capacity (Oz.) 54 96

The ProHeat 2x Revolution has fairly large water tanks but it uses a lot of water to clean, and so it has a relatively small area of coverage before you need to refill its clean water tank and empty its dirty water tank.

Maintenance

proheat 2x disassembled

You cannot remove the ProHeat 2x Revolution’s brushrolls without a screwdriver, and so you’ll usually just clean around them after washing carpet.

You can very easily remove the front nozzle that covers the brushrolls, and doing so gives you good access to clean around the brushrolls without removing them.

Cleaning this model’s dirty water tank is also easy to do. You can remove the whole float assembly that’s usually inside the tank, and doing so gives you good access to clean the float and the inside of the tank.

Versatility

proheat 2x hose and tool

The ProHeat 2x Revolution includes an 8 ft. long hose and two spot cleaning tools – a 3 inch tough stain tool and a 2-in-1 pet upholstery tool.

This model was an average performer in our spot cleaning test.

Staining left-over after spot cleaning test... ProHeat 2X Average
Tomato Sauce light light
Peanut Butter very light very light
Ice Cream light light
Assigned Score 8.3 NA

One important caveat here – the ProHeat 2x Revolution was one of only a handful of carpet cleaners we tested that spins its brushroll while in spot cleaning mode, so you do have to be careful where you place the cleaner when you use it for spot cleaning.

Other Notes and Features

cleanshot

The ProHeat 2x Revolution was the only carpet cleaner we tested that lets you pre-treat stains using the carpet cleaner itself. Usually, you would need to pre-spray using a spray bottle. But with the ProHeat 2x Revolution you can pre-spray using the carpet cleaner itself.

There’s a sprayer on the front right of the cleaner head and you press a button to activate the pre-spray.

The major problem with this setup is that the cleaner uses liquid from the same reservoir it uses to wash carpet regularly.

Usually you would use a pre-treatment formula, not a standard soap and water mix, to pre-treat stains.

You could technically fill this cleaner’s reservoir with pre-treatment formula, pre-treat, and then swap out the liquid in the reservoir for the standard soap and water mix to clean regularly, but this would be more work than just pre-treating normally.

The bottom line – yes, you can “pre-treat” stains using this model’s “CleanShot” feature but you’ll be using a standard soap and water mix to pre-treat, which isn’t really all that helpful. We tested this feature – we pre-treated stains using a standard soap and water mix and then ran the cleaner normally over the stains – and we didn’t really notice much of a difference in performance vs just cleaning regularly without pre-treatment.

Verdict

Our bottom line recommendations.

We generally don’t recommend the ProHeat 2x Revolution.

In our testing it was only an average performer cleaning stains.

It also uses a lot of water to clean, and so it leaves carpet wetter than average after cleaning and it has a very limited area of coverage before you need to refill and empty its water tanks.

There are much better cheaper options available that performed much better in our testing. Our latest recommendations are listed here.
