Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Plus vs Hoover PowerScrub Deluxe
Analysis
A thorough examination of the differences between the ProHeat 2X Revolution and the PowerScrub in six different categories.
Suction Tests
| Suction at the... | ProHeat 2X | PowerScrub | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | 62 | 72 | 72 |
| Hose | 62 | 58 | 71 |
| Nozzle | 0.73 | 2.27 | 1.89 |
The ProHeat 2x Revolution was measured to have more suction at the hose (where a spot cleaning tool attaches), but the PowerScrub was measured to have significantly more suction at the base (at a port near the vacuum motor) and at the nozzle (at the front of the cleaner head where moisture is extracted) of the cleaner.
Winner: PowerScrub
Stain Cleaning Tests
| Passes to clean... | ProHeat 2X | PowerScrub | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tomato Sauce | 11 | 12 | 11.3 |
| Peanut Butter | 11 | 7 | 8.5 |
| Ice Cream | 7 | 9 | 8.0 |
| Grape Juice | 2 | 2 | 2.6 |
| Caramel Syrup | 5 | 6 | 5.2 |
| Choc. Syrup | 8 | 8 | 7.8 |
| Coyote Urine | 2 | 2 | 1.9 |
| Total | 46 | 46 | 45.2 |
The chart above lists the number of passes it took to clean each stain.
A score higher than 10 indicates that a stain wasn’t cleaned after 10 passes (we ended testing after 10 passes). The higher the score, the darker the stain that remained.
For example, the PowerScrub scored 12 for the tomato sauce stain and the ProHeat score 11, so the PowerScrub left behind a slightly darker stain after 10 passes.
The ProHeat also left behind some peanut butter staining after 10 passes (score of 11). The PowerScrub completely cleaned this stain in 7 passes.
Note that the PowerScrub also didn’t spread the stains nearly as much as the ProHeat while it cleaned. The difference in “spread” is clearly demonstrated in the screenshot below.
Winner: PowerScrub – because it was able to completely clean the peanut butter stain and spread stains a lot less as it cleaned.
Moisture Extraction
| Moisture level... | ProHeat 2X | PowerScrub | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| After 10x Passes (%) | 28 | 25 | 26.8 |
| After +3x Passes (%) | 25 | 23 | 24.5 |
The PowerScrub left carpet significantly drier than the ProHeat after cleaning.
Winner: PowerScrub
Area of Coverage
| ProHeat 2X | PowerScrub | Average | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sq. Ft. Per Clean Tank | 116 | 165 | 137 |
| Total Clean Tank Capacity (Oz.) | 128 | 132 | 119 |
| Soap + Water Used Per Sq. Ft. (Oz.) | 1.1 | 0.8 | 0.8 |
| Sq. Ft. Per Dirty Tank | 59 | 169 | 89 |
| Dirty Water Tank Capacity (Oz.) | 54 | 156 | 96 |
The PowerScrub has larger (measured) water tank capacity and it uses less water as it cleans, and so it can cover a much larger area than the ProHeat before you need to refill its clean water tank and before you need to empty its dirty water tank.
Winner: PowerScrub
Maintenance
It’s easier to clean the ProHeat’s dirty water tank because it has less parts to clean and it doesn’t have as many nooks and crannies to clean.
It’s easier to clean the PowerScrub’s cleaner head because you can pull off its brush assembly without using any tools. You cannot remove the ProHeat’s brushrolls without a screwdriver.
Winner: Tie – it’s easier to clean the ProHeat’s dirty water tank, but it’s easier to clean the PowerScrub’s cleaner head (and brush assembly).
Versatility
Both models have a port on the front to which you can connect a hose and spot cleaning tool.
The PowerScrub, though, performed slightly better in our spot cleaning test.
| Staining left-over after spot cleaning test... | ProHeat 2X | PowerScrub | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tomato Sauce | light | light | light |
| Peanut Butter | very light | clean after 4 cleaning cycles | very light |
| Ice Cream | light | light | light |
| Assigned Score | 8.3 | 8.7 | NA |
Winner: PowerScrub
Other Notes and Features
The ProHeat 2x Revolution features CleanShot. Using this feature you can pre-spray stains before you clean them regularly. This functionality really didn’t make much of a difference during testing though. Pre-spraying stains allowed us to clean them in about one or two fewer passes, but if you count pre-spraying itself as a “pass” (or multiple “passes” since it takes so long to pre-spray), there really wasn’t much of a difference in the time it took us to clean at all.
The PowerScrub’s most unique feature is its SpinScrub brush assembly, which is composed of five small rotating brushes. The ProHeat (and most other carpet cleaners we tested) use multiple large brushrolls to agitate and wash carpet.
Using multiple small rotating brushes, the PowerScrub is able to spread stains much less as it cleans, as we already talked about earlier.
Winner: PowerScrub – because its most unique feature actually made a difference in our testing.
Verdict
Our bottom line recommendations.
We generally recommend the PowerScrub over the ProHeat 2X Revolution. Totaling up the number of passes it took each model to clean all of the stains in our upright stain test, both models have exactly the same “total stain score”. However, the PowerScrub spread the stains much less as it cleaned and left the carpet much drier after cleaning as well. The PowerScrub can also clean a much larger area than the ProHeat before you need to refill and empty its water tanks, and it’s significantly cheaper than the ProHeat.
Overall Winner: PowerScrub.
