Suction Tests

Suction at the... TurboClean PowerDash Pet Average
Base 58 58 72
Hose NA NA 71
Nozzle 2.40 2.28 1.89

Both models were measured to have exactly the same suction at the base of the cleaner (at a port near the vacuum motor).

The TurboClean was measured to have slightly more suction at the nozzle.

Winner: TurboClean

Stain Cleaning Tests

Passes to clean... TurboClean PowerDash Pet Average
Tomato Sauce 11 11 11.3
Peanut Butter 5 5 8.5
Ice Cream 7 5 8.0
Grape Juice 2 2 2.6
Caramel Syrup 4 4 5.2
Choc. Syrup 6 5 7.8
Coyote Urine 1 2 1.9
Total 36 34 45.2

The table above lists the number of passes it took each cleaner to clean up each stain through the center of its cleaning path.

As this data illustrates, the PowerDash cleans up slightly faster through the center of its path. It cleans up ice cream faster and chocolate syrup faster, though the TurboClean cleans up pet urine faster.

Both models clean up all other stains just about equally fast through the center of their cleaning paths.

Note that the TurboClean cleans up much better and faster through along the edges of its cleaning path though, as is illustrated in the photo below.

Winner: TurboClean – despite having a slightly higher (and therefore a worse) total score for our stain test, the TurboClean cleans significantly better around edges than the PowerDash Pet.

Moisture Extraction

Moisture level... TurboClean PowerDash Pet Average
After 10x Passes (%) 28 27 26.8
After +3x Passes (%) 25 24 24.5

The PowerDash leaves carpet drier directly after cleaning (the lower the moisture level % the drier the measurement), but not by a significant margin.

Winner: PowerDash Pet

Area of Coverage

TurboClean PowerDash Pet Average
Sq. Ft. Per Clean Tank 62 76 137
Total Clean Tank Capacity (Oz.) 80 61 119
Soap + Water Used Per Sq. Ft. (Oz.) 1.3 0.8 0.8
Sq. Ft. Per Dirty Tank 44 59 89
Dirty Water Tank Capacity (Oz.) 52 48 96

Both the TurboClean and PowerDash Pet are compact carpet cleaners with small water tanks.

The TurboClean’s tanks are slightly larger than the PowerDash’s tanks, but it uses a lot more water as it cleans, and so it has an even smaller area of coverage than the PowerDash before you need to refill its clean tank (with soap and water) and before you need to empty its dirty water tank (of dirty water).

Winner: PowerDash Pet

Maintenance

You cannot remove the brushroll of either model without using a screwdriver. For this reason, you’ll only remove it very rarely. Most of the time you’ll just clean around it after washing carpet.

There is more clearance to clean around the TurboClean’s brushroll than there is around the PowerDash Pet’s brushroll.

You can also take apart the TurboClean’s dirty water tank – you can actually completely remove the float assembly from the inside of the tank – to clean the tank and its components very easily.

You cannot take apart the PowerDash Pet’s tank. There’s only a small hole on the side of its tank through which you can rinse it after cleaning. Over time, muck and dirty can build up in this tank very easily.

Winner: Turboclean – it’s much easier to clean and maintain than the PowerDash Pet.

Versatility

Neither model has a port on the front for you to be able to connect a hose for spot cleaning.

Winner: Tie

Other Notes and Features

Both models have exactly the same measured cleaning path width (7.5”).

Both models are similarly light and just about the same size.

You have to pull a trigger on both models to dispense soap and water and you release the trigger on both models to maximize extraction.

Winner: Tie

Verdict

Our bottom line recommendations.

We generally recommend the TurboClean over the PowerDash Pet because it cleans much better throughout its whole cleaning path (through the center AND along edges) and because it’s much easier to clean and maintain itself.
